I can't believe it is finally here. It is the night before we will take off on the journey to the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. It seems like forever ago we made plans to attend the Olympics to support my older brother Dan, assistant coach of the US Women's Water Polo team, and the unbelievably hard working and talented women on the team. With all the things going on in the world and the threat of the Zika virus, there has definitely been some fear in anticipation for this trip, however, the fears we don't face become our limits and we would not miss this opportunity for the world. This will be the third Olympic Games I have gotten to attend in my 25 years of life. All of these because I have an awesome brother who connects me to them through his involvement in the sport of water polo. I realize what a complete blessing it is to have seen him play in the 2004 Olympics and also to see him coach an outstanding group of women whom I truly admire.
I think what is so special about the Olympic games is the honor of representing your country. Nobody who participates just shows up and does that. There have been years of training and perseverance required in each of the athlete's sports. They fight and practice and work every day to be the best and to represent our country and I cant wait for them to have the opportunity to show off everything they have put into it.
Tomorrow I will be traveling with my dad (Rick) my step mom (Lori) my sister (Jessi) and my boyfriend (Gabriel). My sister n law (Natalie) will meet us there. It is so special to me to be able to have this trip with these people. I cant wait to share the excitement, adventure and experiences with them!
